A new rugged tablet from Doogee called the Doogee R08 has gone official with great durability features for an affordable price but unfortunately, it’s powered by a old mediocre processor. So here are its key details.
Doogee R08 Specs
The Doogee R08 has a premium rugged build, it’s 13.5mm thick and weighs 716g, for a rugged tablet it’s actually thinner than most rugged phones. In addition to its rugged design, the Doogee R08 is rated IP68 & IP69k which means it’s resistant to water, dust and high pressure water jets, it’s also drop-proof.
Additionally, it’s MIL-STD-810-H certified, so it’s been tested to ensure it’s resistant to different environmental conditions. The durability features of the Doogee R08 is certainly superior to flagship devices.
Display
Further, it has a 10.1-inch HD+ IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1280×800 pixels and a 149 PPI density which is very low for such a large display. A large display with such a low PPI(pixels per inch) that is viewed up close would be unpleasant to the eyes and is not okay for entertainment purposes such as gaming or watching videos because the image quality of the display would not be vibrant and sharp.
Expect poor performance
The R08 is also powered by an old Mediatek processor released in 2018 called the MT8788, it’s a 12nm octa-core processor with a clock speed of up to 2GHz, it also utilizes the big.LITTLE technology and it managed to attain an Antutu score of about 204,000 (source).
Additionally, it utilizes 6 GB LPDDR4X RAM with up to 10 GB virtual extended RAM support. Meaning, the RAM can be expanded up to 16 GB via the virtual RAM expansion software feature. The internal storage is 256 GB that is expandable up to 2 TB via TF card.
Below average camera
A camera module sits at the top left corner at the phone’s rear which contains two camera lenses that consists of a 13 MP main camera that takes average quality photos and is capable of recording up to 1080p videos at 30fps, an auxiliary lens and an LED flash. While the selfie is just 5 MP.
The device is bloatware-free because it runs the stock version of Android 13 and it’s guaranteed to receive consecutive android security updates. It’s also backed by a massive 7,680 mAh battery that could easily last over two days on a single charge but unfortunately, it ships with a 10W charger.
Additional features includes GPS with other essential navigation features, FM radio, OTG, Side fingerprint, Face ID, 3.5mm jack, Dual SIM, Bluetooth 5.0, 5GHz Wi-Fi and 4G connectivity.
Final thoughts
Obviously, majority of the specs of the Doogee R08 are mediocre but at least it has premium durability features, a very large battery, a pretty large internal storage and a fingerprint sensor for security. The device is offered in only Black color and it retails for about $320 on Doogee Mall.
